033 - the maddur vada

033 - the maddur vada

Lately, I’ve taken way more trains than I have in the last 6 years and every time I take a train from Mysore to Bangalore or back, there’s this vendor that goes around selling “Maddur Vadas” in a bucket in the train, along with some tea.

Essentially the name comes from -

Maddur is a place between Bangalore and Mysore in karnataka & a vada is -

Vadas can be described variously as fritters, cutlets, or dumplings”, essentially an Indian savory snack.

There’s like a 1000 types of Vada at least, some specific to a certain region, others more globally known.

If there’s one thing anyone from Bangalore or Mysore can agree on, is that the Maddur Vada slaps.

It’s a flavor specific to this region and there’s nothing like it, it’s been one of my favorite savory snacks for as long as I can remember. I’m not too sure what the ingredients are, but I definitely miss this when I’m in Dubai.

I’m literally eating one as I type this out, easily one of the most nostalgic feelings ever.

It’s good to be back home after a fun weekend with friends and family, 033 was honestly super exhausting.
